Shredding in Avant-garde Metal: Necessary?

I think it's absolutely not necessary but, why not doing it if you want? A good, fast solo can be a really good climax in my eyes. For example Arcturus' Ad Astra - How great is that?! But it has to fit and mustn't stand out the atmosphere, which is of course the most important thing. Personally, being a guitarist, I like complex and fast soloing if it's not too boring 08/15 sweep picking-scale shredding. A musician that has a style I like a lot and can imagine to combine with some AGM stuff is Jari Mäenpäa, but that's of course just my two cents.
